Weddings

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding! We would be honored to be a part of your marriage journey. Growing in faith, hope and love is a lifelong process that is essential to a truly happy, holy and lasting marriage.

Here are the steps toward being married at St. John de LaSalle:

  • Obtain all required documents that apply to you (see below).
  • Contact the Pastoral Care Office at (716) 283-2238 or stjohndelasalle@outlook.com to arrange a wedding date and schedule an appointment with our pastor to discuss your marriage preparation.
  • Arrange to take an online or in-person marriage preparation class. Please note that marriage preparation programs should be completed six months to a year before your wedding. Learn more.
  • Make arrangements with the musician(s). The Pastoral Care Office can provide contact information for musicians as needed. Please keep in mind that music for a wedding liturgy is meant to be sacred music suitable for the Mass.
  • Email your church ceremony program, readings and prayer selections to the priest who will officiate.
  • Email your wedding party list to the Pastoral Care Office.
  • Obtain your marriage license.

Required Documents

  • Certificate of Baptism
  • Certificate of Confirmation
  • Marriage certificate(s) from previous marriage(s), if applicable
  • Divorce Decree, if applicable
  • Marriage certificate (current), if applicable. This applies if you are already in a marriage that was performed outside a church setting, and you are now seeking validation by the Church.
  • Dispensation form(s), if applicable. The pastor can assist you with these forms, which are used in the case of previous marriages, marriages between a Catholic and non-Catholic, or other special situations.
  • Witness forms. These will be given to you by the pastor and must be filled out by a Catholic friend/family member who knows you well and can be a witness of your freedom to marry.
  • Marriage License. Must be obtained from the city or county clerk’s office. Submit it no later than the rehearsal date. By law, a wedding ceremony cannot be held without a valid license, regardless of any other arrangements made.

Annulment
To be married in the Catholic Church, those who have been previously married must seek annulment. Learn more.
