Lectors
Lectors proclaim the readings at weekend Masses. Parishioners who have been confirmed can become a lector. Lectors can choose the Mass time to which they are assigned, and are usually assigned once every three or four weeks.
Eucharistic Ministers
Extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion are lay people who help the priest distribute the Eucharist at Mass. Parishioners who have been confirmed can become Eucharistic ministers after completing a required training class. Eucharistic ministers can choose the Mass time to which they are assigned, and are usually assigned once every two or three weeks.
Music Ministry
Interested instrumentalists and singers may join the contemporary music ensemble at 11:15 Mass on Sundays. Regular rehearsals, usually held after Sunday Mass, are required. Special ensembles of instrumentalists and singers are organized for Christmas and Easter liturgies, and volunteers are welcome for those special occasions as well.
Altar Servers
Girls and boys who belong to the parish and have received their First Communion are invited to assist the priest at Mass as altar servers. A training class is required. Altar servers can choose the Mass time to which they are assigned. Adult parishioners are invited to assist as altar servers at parish funerals. Training is provided.
Eucharistic Adoration
It is a special privilege to pray before the Blessed Sacrament. Here at St. John’s we offer Eucharistic Adoration every Thursday from 7:45 a.m. to midnight. Participants are asked to spend between 30 and 60 minutes in prayer or spiritual reading. Adoration is closed silently by the last person adoring the Blessed Sacrament from 11:00 p.m. to midnight. We welcome new people to join the schedule and take part in this wonderful devotion.
